He was arrested in February 2025 in connection with a criminal case opened under the article "assistance to extremist activity" after Belarusian security forces gained access to the chats of a bot belonging to the Belarusian Gayun monitoring project, where people were sending information about Russian troop movements.
In October 2025, Maxim was found guilty and sentenced to restricted freedom and sent to an open correctional facility.
Mikhail lived in Mozyr. In 2014, he served in the Minsk garrison and took part in the troop parade on July 3rd. For his participation in that parade, he received a commendation from Lukashenko.
In 1993, he graduated from the Minsk Higher Anti-Aircraft Missile Engineering School of Air Defense and, with the rank of major, was sent to the 147th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment in Babruisk (military unit 96869). He served there until at least the late 2000s, when he retired.

Religion plays a significant role in Rybak's life. He is an active believer in the Church of the Lord's Grace, one of the oldest Evangelical Christian Baptist congregations in Bobruisk.

In 1994, he won a diploma at the First National Festival of Belarusian Bard Songs. Many of his poems have been set to music.
He was detained several times on politically motivated administrative charges. He was arrested in connection with a criminal case in the summer of 2025. He was placed on bail pending trial.
