Lidiya was arrested in January 2022 as part of a criminal case opened under the article "organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them," and was remanded in custody pending trial.
In April 2022, she was convicted of participating in the "March for Freedom" protest that took place on August 16, 2020, in Minsk and sentenced to restricted freedom and sent to an open correctional facility.
Lidiya left Belarus before starting to serve her sentence.
In October 2024, a court hearing in absentia was held as part of a special proceeding on the issue of replacing the restriction of freedom with imprisonment with serving the sentence in a penal colony.

How to write a letter

✍️️ Remember that every letter is censored. This means that your letters are read by strangers whose main goal is to limit inmates' access to information or to use it against the prisoners or even you.
So try to avoid:
👉️️ harsh statements regarding ongoing political matters
👉 statements against the authorities and public servants
👉 foul language
👉 discussion of the circumstances of the criminal case
