Maria was found guilty in the fall of 2021 of desecrating historical and cultural heritage for "cynical posing" in Victory Square in Minsk in 2020.

She posted a video on TikTok of herself sitting on a slab in front of the Eternal Flame in Victory Square, draping a white-red-white flag over her shoulders. The Investigative Committee deemed this an act of cynicism and immorality and opened a criminal case.

After the verdict was announced, Maria was supposed to appear to serve her sentence on January 8, 2022, but on January 7 she left Belarus.

In October 2024, a court hearing in absentia was held within the framework of special proceedings on the issue of replacing the restriction of freedom with referral to a correctional facility.
