Pavel was arrested in the fall of 2024 as part of a criminal case opened for "participation in group actions that grossly violate public order," and in 2025 he was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony.
On December 13, 2025, he was released following a visit to Minsk by US President Donald Trump's special representative, Keith Kellogg, and taken to Ukraine.
