Sergei, a pensioner suffering from cancer, was found guilty in October 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a comment he left on social media under a photo of Igor Volnich, a traffic police officer from the Gantsevichi District Department of Internal Affairs.
Despite Sergei claiming he wasn't politically active and spent most of his time at his dacha, and that he'd left the comment accidentally because the button under the post had jammed, he was sentenced to restricted freedom and ordered to pay moral damages and cover government costs.
