In January 2021, he was a victim in a criminal case for insulting government officials: Alexander Deshchenya wrote to the Glussk regional newspaper asking them to accurately report on events in the country involving Kurs and the protests. The newspaper's management contacted the police regarding this matter. Kurs filed a claim for 3,000 rubles for emotional distress. The court granted the claim for 2,000 rubles and sentenced Alexander to two years of restricted freedom in an open correctional facility. Irina Gromyko, editor of the Radzima newspaper, was a witness for the prosecution in the trial.
