Alexander was found guilty in January 2021 of a criminal case opened for desecration of state symbols. According to the charges, 16-year-old Alexander was on the porch of the rural community center in the urban settlement of Antopol when he intentionally and repeatedly grabbed and pulled at the flagpole and pole of a flag mounted on a bracket near the main entrance. As a result, he tore down the red-and-green flag, damaging the pole in the process. The young man was given the compulsory educational measures prescribed for minors.
