On 14 September 2020, Maryia posted a comment in the Telegram chat "Brest 97%" about Maksim Mikhovich, commander of the riot police (OMON) of the Internal Affairs Department of the Brest Regional Executive Committee. At the time she posted the comment, she was 16 years old.
In April 2022, Maryia was found guilty in a criminal case opened under the article "Slander" for this comment and sentenced to restricted freedom without referral to an open-type correctional facility.
