On September 19, 2022, Gomel Regional Court Judge Anatoly Sotnikov found Evgeny guilty and sentenced him to 3.5 years in prison and a fine of 4.2 thousand rubles.
On January 13, 2023, another case against Yevgeny was heard in Mozyr under Article 369 of the Criminal Code. The trial was conducted behind closed doors by Judge Galina Knizhonok. According to human rights activists, the political prisoner was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months of imprisonment, but the final term of punishment remained the same. The judge also ordered the man to pay 4.2 thousand rubles in compensation for moral damage. An appeal against this sentence was heard on March 10, 2023 in the Gomel Regional Court.
Evgeniya was transferred from Pre-trial Detention Center No. 3 to Novopolotsk Correctional Colony No. 1 at the end of March 2023.
On 24.02.2025 he was released, having fully served the sentence imposed by the court.
Karaban Denis is accused at trial of leaving the following comment in the VK group “BAD NEWS BELARUS”: “A*uenchik, it’s high time to bring them down.”
The investigation and the state prosecution regard this statement as the commission of a crime under Part 1 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code, i.e. inciting hostility (against law enforcement officers).
