Dmitry Dashkevich is one of the most famous political figures in Belarus. He has been involved in public activities since 2001. He was the leader of the Young Front and served long sentences several times for political activities in Belarus. Dashkevich is also one of the organizers of the “Night of Executed Poets” and “Defense of Kurapaty” events.
After the 2020 elections, Dashkevich remained perhaps the only public opposition politician who remained in Belarus.
He was detained on March 23, 2022, sentenced to 15 days under an administrative article, during which time a criminal case was opened against Dmitry and after 15 days he was left in custody.
In July 2023, it became known that a new criminal case had been opened against Dmitry for “malicious disobedience to the requirements of the administration of the correctional institution” (Article 411 of the Criminal Code). On October 18, Judge Tatyana Derevyanko sentenced Dmitry to another year in prison under strict regime conditions.
In January 2024, the political prisoner was again transferred to Correctional Colony No. 14. In the colony, he was placed in a punishment cell, where it was terribly cold. During the night, Dmitry has to get up up to eight times to do exercises and somehow warm up. For this, reports are drawn up against him, which does not lie after lights out.
At the end of May 2024, it became known that a new criminal case had been opened against Dmitry - he was charged with Article 342. Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
