Political persecutions

Stanislav, a Ukrainian citizen, was arrested in May 2021 as part of a criminal case opened following the spontaneous protests that took place in Brest on August 10, 2020, against election fraud. He was convicted of participating in "mass riots."

He was released in June 2025, having fully served his sentence, and was forcibly deported to Latvia with a ban on entry to Belarus for a period of five years.

Diana was found guilty in October 2021 of "insulting Lukashenko" for a comment she left in the Telegram group "Klichev-chat." The court sentenced her to a two-year suspended prison sentence.

Alexander was found guilty in October 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a comment he left on VKontakte under a post about how police officers Sergei Vladimirovich Shramov and Alexander Leonidovich Shlupakov "sacrificed their lives" while removing white-red-white balloons.

Alexander was found guilty in October 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a comment he left on the social media site Odnoklassniki under a photograph of Drogichin District Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption (OBEP) detective Yuri Chernyshkov. Chernyshkov claimed that on August 10, 2020, the officer had punched and kicked a young woman in a public square and then handed her over to a riot police officer.

Vadim was found guilty of "insulting a government official" for comments left on the social network VKontakte in February 2021 under photographs of police officers Alexander Leonidovich Shlupakov and Sergei Vladimirovich Shramov.

Ekaterina was accused in October 2021 of insulting a government official—Taratenko, an employee of the Frunzensky District Prosecutor's Office in Minsk.

Sergei, a pensioner suffering from cancer, was found guilty in October 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a comment he left on social media under a photo of Igor Volnich, a traffic police officer from the Gantsevichi District Department of Internal Affairs.

Despite Sergei claiming he wasn't politically active and spent most of his time at his dacha, and that he'd left the comment accidentally because the button under the post had jammed, he was sentenced to restricted freedom and ordered to pay moral damages and cover government costs.

Mikhail was convicted of slander and sentenced to restricted freedom and sent to an open-type institution.

In November 2021, it was announced that a new criminal case had been opened against Mikhail for "inciting hatred or discord." The exact grounds for the case are unknown.

On November 26, 2021, Mikhail managed to leave Belarus.

Denis was arrested in September 2021 as part of a criminal case opened under the article "organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them." In November of that year, he was convicted for participating in a post-election protest that took place on August 9, 2020, in Minsk.

Nikita was detained in September 2021 as part of a criminal case opened under the article "organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them." In January 2022, he was convicted for participating in a post-election protest that took place on August 9, 2020, in Minsk.

In January 2025, a court hearing in absentia was held as part of a special proceeding on the issue of replacing the restriction of freedom with a referral to imprisonment in a penal colony.

Kirill was arrested in September 2021 in connection with a criminal case opened under the article "organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them," and was convicted in January 2022 for participating in post-election protests that took place in Minsk in 2020.

Andrei was arrested in September 2021 in connection with a criminal case opened under the article "organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, or actively participating in them." In November of that year, he was convicted of participating in a post-election protest that took place in September 2020 in Grodno.

Before starting to serve his sentence, Andrei left Belarus.

In February 2025, a court hearing in absentia was held as part of a special proceeding on the issue of replacing the restriction of freedom with a referral to imprisonment in a penal colony.

Sergei was found guilty in October 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a comment he left on the social media site Odnoklassniki under a photo of Igor Volnich, a traffic police officer from the Gantsevichi District Police Department, pinning a detainee to the ground with his knee. In addition to his restricted freedom, Sergei was ordered to pay compensation.

Pavel was found guilty in October 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a comment he left on social media about a Minsk police officer. Following the criminal case against him, Pavel was also asked to resign as an employee of Mogilevkhimvolokno.

Svetlana was first convicted in October 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a comment left under a photograph of nine riot police officers posted on the "Punishermen of Belarus" Telegram channel. She was sentenced to restricted freedom without a referral and ordered to pay substantial compensation.

In December 2021, she was detained along with her daughter in a criminal case opened under the article "organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them." In March 2022, she was convicted again and sentenced to restricted freedom without referral.

In October 2024, a court hearing in absentia was held as part of a special proceeding on the issue of replacing the restriction of freedom without sending him to an open correctional facility.
