Dmitry Dashkevich is one of the most famous political figures in Belarus. He has been involved in public activities since 2001. He was the leader of the "Young Front" and served long prison terms several times for political activities in Belarus. Dashkevich is also one of the organizers of the "Night of Shot Poets" and "Defense of Kurapaty" campaigns.
After the 2020 elections, Dashkevich remained, perhaps, the only public opposition politician who remained in Belarus.
He was detained on March 23, 2022, sentenced to 15 days under an administrative article, during which time a criminal case was opened against Dmitry and after 15 days he was left in custody.
In July 2023, it became known that a new criminal case had been opened against Dmitry for “malicious disobedience to the demands of the administration of the correctional institution” (Article 411 of the Criminal Code). On October 18, Judge Tatyana Derevyanko sentenced Dmitry to another year in a maximum-security penal colony.
In January 2024, the political prisoner was transferred again to IK No. 14. In the colony, he was placed in a punishment cell, where it is terribly cold. During the night, Dmitry has to get up to eight times to do exercises and somehow warm up. For this, they write reports about him not lying down after lights out.
At the end of May 2024, it became known that a new criminal case had been opened against Dmitry.
Dmitry was charged with "people's" article 342 of the Criminal Code (active participation in group actions that grossly violate public order), as well as part 1 of article 411 of the Criminal Code (malicious disobedience to the demands of the colony administration) and was again sentenced to a new term.
On September 11, 2025, it became known that 52 prisoners of the Belarusian regime were forcibly transferred to the territory of Lithuania. Among them are citizens of European countries . Among those released is Dmitry Dashkevich.
