On July 4, 2024, the KGB designated the Telegram channel "ShapitoDich" an extremist group. According to the agency, Elena is involved.

Elena, a dentist, was detained in mid-May of that year and sentenced to imprisonment in February 2025, having been found guilty of “creating an extremist group” and “calling for sanctions.”

On December 13, 2025, she was released following a visit to Minsk by US President Donald Trump's special representative, John Cole, and taken to Ukraine.
