On 13 September 2020, a protest took place in Brest: a column of people came out to the crossroads of Masherau Avenue and Kasmanautau Boulevard, where they sang and danced in a circle until they were dispersed with a water cannon. The criminal case opened after it became known as the "round dance case", and dozens of people were later convicted in it.
Ihar was detained on 1 December 2021 and held in a pre-trial detention center until the trial.
In May 2022, Ihar was found guilty in a criminal case brought under the article "Organisation and preparation of actions grossly violating public order, or active participation in them" for taking part in this protest and sentenced to restricted freedom without referral to an open-type correctional facility ("home chemistry"). He was released from custody in the courtroom.
Later, Ihar left Belarus.
In December 2024, a court hearing in absentia on toughening his punishment was held under special proceedings. Its outcome is unknown.
