Ivan was detained on 30 March 2022. Pro-government Telegram channels claimed the reason was the events of August 2020, but security officers found photos of military equipment on his phone. He had posted them in the Telegram channel "Kalinkovichi for Life" on 23 February, the day before Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine.
In October 2022, Ivan was found guilty in a criminal case initiated under the articles "Facilitation of extremist activity" and "Organization and preparation of actions grossly violating public order, or active participation in them" and sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony. The length of the sentence is unknown.
