In court, Pavel stated that he initially reacted emotionally to the war in Ukraine, but later abandoned the idea of fighting. Furthermore, Pavel is charged with illegally crossing the Russian border into Belarus with potent substances (100 stanozolol tablets) and illegally acquiring and possessing ammunition (16 9mm cartridge casings and 12 9mm rounds).
On December 13, 2025, he was released after another visit to Minsk by US President Donald Trump's special representative, John Cole, and taken to Ukraine.
