Before his arrest, Sergei worked at the Baranovichi branch of the Belarusian Railways, as well as at the Lida locomotive depot.
According to the case materials, between November 2020 and January 2022, he posted messages on VKontakte containing insults and threats of violence against Lukashenko. Furthermore, in February 2022, he published messages that the investigation deemed aimed at inciting ethnic and other social hatred and discord against Russian military personnel.
In the summer of 2022, Sergei was convicted on three criminal charges and sentenced to imprisonment.
On December 13, 2025, he was released following a visit to Minsk by US President Donald Trump's special representative, Keith Kellogg, and taken to Ukraine.
