Vasil Veramejchyk
A former fighter in Kalinovsky's regiment, whom Vietnam extradited to Belarus, Vasily was also a member of the Coordination Council.
It was reported that the man ended up in Asia after Lithuania deemed him a threat to national security and banned him from entering the European Union. "Kalinovets" was brought to Belarus on the evening of November 14 under a three-person escort. Vasily was flown to Belarus on Belavia flight B2978 from Moscow on the evening of November 14.
It is also known that the video of Veremeychik, published by propagandists, is, as expected, staged: it was filmed on a different plane and at a different time.
Former political prisoner Yuri Zenkovich said he spent four months in a KGB pretrial detention center before his release, sharing a cell with former Kalinovka prisoner Vasily Veremeychik. He noted that he greatly respects Vasily as an honest, open, and courageous person who hasn't broken down and remains courageous: "What he said in the 'interview' was coerced. To force him to say what the BBT officers wanted to hear, they used physical violence against him. Since there was little point in resisting, he said what he said under duress."
Vasily began experiencing health problems in the pretrial detention center. Veremeychik complained of symptoms suggesting heart problems: chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, and swelling in his arms and legs. He received no medical care in the pretrial detention center. In 2025, Veremeychik was sentenced to 13 years in prison and sent to Shklov Colony No. 17 to serve his sentence. There, Vasily was finally examined—tests were taken and a cardiac ultrasound was performed. The man's family doesn't know the exact results, but after the examination, Veremeychik was placed on IV drips and prescribed four strong medications: aspicard, clopidogrel, atorvastatin, and metoprolol. It is suspected that Vasily suffered a heart attack.
According to Vasily's wife , he was supposed to be transferred to the hospital at Minsk Pretrial Detention Center No. 1 in early June 2026 for heart surgery. Instead, the political prisoner was thrown into a punishment cell, and then into a punishment cell.
How to write a letter
✏️ A postcard with words of encouragement (a poem by your favorite author, song lyrics, or a beautiful quote). Trust us, even such simple gestures are very meaningful to a person in jail.
✏️ Your life events. To a person who is in isolation for a long time, any story about your routine endeavors will be a window into normal life. Your day-to-day worries and mundane matters are much more interesting than the daily grind of life behind bars.
✏️ It is important to share news. Mention the most notable and interesting occurrences depending on your pen-pal's interests.
✍️️ Remember that every letter is censored. This means that your letters are read by strangers whose main goal is to limit inmates' access to information or to use it against the prisoners or even you.
So try to avoid:
👉️️ harsh statements regarding ongoing political matters
👉 statements against the authorities and public servants
👉 foul language
👉 discussion of the circumstances of the criminal case
Involved in repression
