Evgeny was found guilty in August 2021 of "desecration of state symbols" for demonstratively tearing up and burning the Belarusian national flag in the presence of an acquaintance. The trial was filmed and posted online. The file was freely accessible, allowing internet users to watch and share the performance. Evgeny was sentenced to restricted freedom without a referral.
After the prosecutor's office appealed the verdict, Evgeny's sentence was changed to one year of restricted freedom with placement in an open correctional facility.
He was released in November 2022, having fully served his sentence.

✍️️ Remember that every letter is censored. This means that your letters are read by strangers whose main goal is to limit inmates' access to information or to use it against the prisoners or even you.

👉 statements against the authorities and public servants
👉 foul language
👉 discussion of the circumstances of the criminal case
