In a news segment, Belarusian state TV reported that in May 2021 Alexander had transferred about 800 US dollars to BYPOL. It is worth noting that BYPOL was designated an extremist organisation only in November 2021, so at the time of the transfer the initiative was not considered extremist.
According to witnesses, Alexander was indeed offered the chance to compensate the damage through a fund linked to the president. He agreed to such compensation in exchange for his release, but things did not go to plan. Alexander was turned down, and his money (about 30 bitcoins) was confiscated. BYPOL was designated a “terrorist organisation”, and a new criminal case was opened against Alexander under the article “Financing of terrorist activity”.
On March 15, 2024, at the Minsk City Court, Judge Elena Shilko handed down a new sentence – 9 years of imprisonment. The waves of pardons that swept the country did not reach this political prisoner.
