Yulia Cheslavovna Gustyr is involved in politically motivated repressions in the Republic of Belarus. Gustyr is responsible for handing down numerous politically motivated sentences against journalists, opposition leaders, activists and protesters as a judge at the Central District Court of Minsk. In judicial practice, Yulia Cheslavovna Gustyr considered not only administrative cases, but also criminal ones. As a result of her decisions, fines were issued for a total of no less than 38,975 rubles and administrative arrests for a total of no less than 607 days, and representatives of civil society of the Republic of Belarus were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. In 2020, Gustyr sentenced Sergei Shabanov to 15 days, whose entire guilt was that on the morning of October 30, near the Minsk Arena, where A. Lukashenko’s motorcade was passing at that time, Sergei showed the “Victory” sign to the cars with his fingers honking in a traffic jam. In August 2020, she awarded 10 days to the “DJ of change” Vladislav Sokolovsky just for the song of Viktor Tsoi, which he and his colleague played at a state event in Kievsky Square in Minsk. In 2020, Yulia Gustyr made a decision to extend presidential candidate Viktor Babaryka’s detention period. For her crimes she was included in the sanctions lists of the EU, UK, USA and Canada. Thus, Yulia Cheslavovna Gustyr is responsible for human rights violations and undermining the rule of law, as well as for promoting repression against representatives of civil society and the democratic opposition. Her work within the judiciary was focused on maintaining the position of the existing government, rather than on upholding the law. Gustyr's actions contributed to human rights violations, strengthening the power of Alexander Lukashenko and increasing politically motivated repression in the Republic of Belarus.
