According to pro-government Telegram channels, four individuals—called a "sleeper cell of extremists" —were detained . They had "external ties" to Belarusian volunteers fighting in Ukraine. Dmitry was among them.

They all hail from Gomel and, judging by their social media posts, had been friends for a long time, having played together in an international game of Beer Pong in Gomel. After their brutal arrest , the friends were forced to record a "confession video" and testify that they had created a chat room where they corresponded with each other and, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, had allegedly insulted Lukashenko several times in their messages and also made "inappropriate" comments. Another accusation was that the boys "had external connections" with Belarusian volunteers fighting for Ukraine. Apparently, this was the basis for the criminal case under the article "assistance to extremist activity."

On May 10, 2024, the appeal was heard and the verdict came into force.

He was released in December 2025, having served his full sentence.

An activist from Baranovichi, Igor has a third-degree disability due to a traffic accident 10 years ago that resulted in his leg being amputated. He was arrested on February 23, 2023, sentenced to 15 days in prison, and then transferred to a pretrial detention facility on criminal charges.

According to the investigation, between May 1, 2020, and May 23, 2022, Shumilov published four posts on Odnoklassniki containing satirical images, which the investigation considered insulting Lukashenko and government officials, as well as slandering Lukashenko. One of the images depicts Lukashenko and the aforementioned individuals as prisoners being held in a prison cell. At his trial, Igor fully admitted his guilt. He explained that the posts appeared on his page only after he "liked" them. He himself did not understand at the time that these images could be considered insulting.

On March 19, 2026, he was pardoned after another visit to Minsk by US President Donald Trump's special representative, John Cole (among a group of 235 prisoners left in Belarus).
